It's big and roomy inside with decent head room and legroom and lots of hip room, making it a good choice for larger drivers. Its big, cushy seats are comfortable. Back-seat passengers will find rear-seat leg room as good as that in larger cars and suvs. Versa delivers an epa-estimated 31 mpg on the highway with the automatic, 33 mpg with the manual transmission. the versa is slightly bigger than the lower priced toyota yaris and the more expensive honda fit. All three are subcompacts designed with tall rooflines for increased interior comfort and visibility. For 2009, nissan has simplified the model lineup by reducing the total number of body, trim, and transmission combinations from nine to six. The sport package is restricted to the hatchback. fuel economy for the nissan versa depends on the powertrain. Versa sl with cvt (continuously variable transmission) is epa-estimated at 27/33 mpg city/highway. The base sedan with 1. 6-liter engine gets 26/34 mpg with five-speed manual, 26/33 with automatic. bottom line, the nissan versa is a big small car with comfort, performance and versatility. Versa s comes in sedan and hatchback body styles; the hatchback features a 60/40 split folding rear seat. Similarly, a tall, steep windshield aids space efficiency in the van and in the versa as well. it's very different at the versa's near-vertical rear, where the little nissan almost looks like a hatchback bmw never built. The bottom edges of the tailgate angle sharply inward to clear the cat's-eye taillights. We're guessing it was designed this way to allow those trapezoid taillights to stay on the body rather than being mounted on the tailgate itself. It gives the rear end a unique character, though the tailgate opening is smaller than it otherwise could be. the sedan is nearly seven inches longer than the hatchback and has a more conventional rear end. The sedan is handsome enough, with its long, tapering sail panels. we find the hatch more appealing. We like its distinctive styling and find it more versatile than the sedan. interiorthe huge front seats in the nissan versa are roomy and comfortable. As with the other cars in this class, the versa driver gets lots of legroom and headroom. In terms of hip room, however, the versa is a real standout. The width and the substantial structure of the front seats may make the versa a great choice among subcompacts for big drivers. The cloth-covered seats are comfortable without being too soft and offer plenty of side support. the back seat is particularly impressive. Even a six-footer shouldn't feel cramped as the rear seat legroom is at or near the top of the class. No hard plastics here. the instrument pod contains three large, well-recessed gauges that are easy to read. The speedometer takes pride of place in the center and almost seems as if it is floating over the other two gauges. controls for the dash mounted radio and cd changer are well integrated into the center stack, and although they are not very large they are easy to see and comprehend. There is a large volume knob in the center with a very visible power button. Three functional, conventional knobs operate the climate control system. All in all there's nothing fancy about any of the controls, although everything looks well finished. Two large cupholders are conveniently located under the center stack. the optional intelligent key allows for keyless starting of the engine, something that up until now has only been available in luxury cars. We don't recommend it. Tow truck operators tell us they get a lot of calls dealing with keyless starting systems. And we don't find them a big benefit. cargo versatility is a strong point for the hatchback. There's a generous 17. 8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in place. Part of the reason for the spacious rear cargo bay is the careful design of the rear suspension so that no strut towers intrude into the interior. One of the reasons for its excellent highway economy is its continuously variable transmission, or cvt. Nissan has been a standout in this technology; it's so well integrated into the murano that drivers often don't notice it was anything other than a regular automatic. a cvt doesn't shift gears like an automatic transmission. Instead, a segmented belt rides up and down on cone-shaped pulleys to vary the speed ratio between the engine and the drivetrain. It works more efficiently than a traditional automatic, which is why the versa equipped with a cvt delivers such good highway mileage. A six-speed manual remains for drivers who prefer shifting gears. we've been pleased with the versa. It has plenty of zip and there's no problem merging into traffic on a fast free-flowing freeway.

2009 nissan rogue review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Carlike ride and handling in a compact suv. introductionthe nissan rogue is a compact suv. Based on a car platform, it's considered a crossover vehicle, like the honda cr-v. No v6 is available, nor is there a third row for seven-passenger seating. the rogue is meant as a daily commuter, not an off-road adventure vehicle. Its all-wheel-drive system is intended for snow and rain, not rocks and mud. A so-called crossover, it's based on an economy-car platform. The towing capacity is only 1500 pounds. We think it's one of the better handling small suvs, but it's not sporty. The ride allows for a lot of road feel and can become harsh on rough and irregular surfaces. Road imperfections and engine sounds intrude into the cabin. the cabin is pleasant, with materials that would look good in higher-priced vehicles. The controls are easy to use and understand, but the rogue lacks creature comforts and gadgets filtering down to other low-priced vehicles. There is no navigation system, for instance. an suv should provide cargo utility, and the rogue is up to the task. The rear seats fold flat and, on the rogue sl, there is an available folding front passenger seat to permit longer items to be loaded. Its carlike road manners, cargo utility and prudent fuel economy make it appealing. There are auto speed-sensing door locks. Standard equipment on the rogue sl has been upgraded and a leather package is available. Bluetooth and nissan intelligent key have been added to the front-drive premium package. lineupthe nissan rogue is offered in two trim levels, s and sl. When the sl premium package is ordered, the transmission has shift paddles to select among six predetermined gear ratios. Rogue s is available with all-wheel drive 21,420). Splash guards 125) are the only option. Dealer-installed accessories include floor mats, a towing package, and a rear spoiler. rogue sl 21,810) with front-drive or all-wheel drive 23,010) include six-way manually adjustable driver's seat, roof rails and 225/60r17 tires on aluminum wheels. the optional sl leather package 1,950) includes leather seating surfaces, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated front seats, six-way power driver's seat with power lumbar, driver's one-touch power window, homelink, heated outside mirrors and auto-dimming inside mirror. The styling is swoopy, with rounded lines and a wedge shape from front to rear. Flared rear shoulders and an upswept window line give the rogue a sporty feel. ornamentation is minimal. A black and chrome nissan badge up front is flanked by a body-color grille. Only that badge and the headlights lend any contrast to the front end. There is even less character to the sides, which have no ornamentation at all. The mirrors are black on the rogue s and body color on the rogue sl. The 17-inch aluminum wheels on the sl help, but the s has plain steel wheels with wheel covers. we think the rogue looks best from the rear, where the dark rear glass, eye-shaped taillights, rounded panels and license plate recess give it some definition. Unfortunately, the rear liftgate lacks a separate opening glass. among compact suvs, the rogue has a sleeker, car-based crossover look, like the cr-v, as opposed to the upright mini-suvs like the ford escape or jeep liberty. the rogue is the longest vehicle in the class, though it doesn't look it. At 182. 9 inches overall, it is even longer than the seven-passenger toyota rav4 and the seemingly large jeep liberty. interiorat first glance, the interior of the nissan rogue seems nice if somewhat plain. Closer inspection reveals quality materials impressive for the price. The dash, for instance, is molded in a soft-touch material that seems as if it might be right at home in an infiniti. The door tops also have a nice soft-touch material. The remainder of the materials is price-appropriate plastic that fits together well. the instrument panel features only two gauges, the tachometer and speedometer. It has substantially-sized buttons, but the presets are grouped in a, b and c folders, instead of am and fm sets. It takes some getting used to but, with 18 total presets, most drivers will be able to program all of their favorite stations. An auxiliary input jack is provided for mp3 player connectivity. storage for small items up front is adequate. The center console has two integral cupholders and a small tray that will work for holding little odds and ends. The tilt steering wheel helps, and there is enough head and leg room for all but the tallest drivers. There is good visibility to the front and the side mirrors are large, but over-the shoulder visibility is compromised by a smallish rear window and rear side windows that are pinched at the rear. The ride height makes getting into and out of the rogue very easy. the second row is usefully roomy, with head and leg room that can accommodate adults, even with the front seats moved far back. Three adults in the rear will be cramped, but they should be able to deal with short trips. Toe space under the front seats is plentiful. cargo space is good but not at the top of the class. The second-row seats are split 60/40, and they fold flat in an easy one-step motion to open up to the maximum 57. 9 cubic feet of cargo space. the sl model includes a folding front passenger seat, which folds almost flat to allow loading of longer items. While it is among the better handling compact suvs, it's not sporty. It drives more like a car than an suv, but it has more body lean in turns than most cars. The electric-assist steering requires only a light effort, but it feels natural and direct with good road feel. In fact, the rogue transmits more road feel to the driver through the steering wheel than most compact suvs. the ride is generally comfortable, but it can become busy on bumpy pavement and sharp ruts can give passengers a jolt. Perhaps the rogue's biggest drawback is interior noise. The noises from rough pavement, bumps and potholes, and the engine are somewhat as we'd expect in an economy car. It has the low-end punch to provide good pickup from a stop. Midrange power is adequate, but the rogue needs to get going a bit for passing maneuvers. the continuously variable transmission works well with the engine, quickly switching to an appropriate ratio for the driving conditions. The only way to tell that it's not a standard automatic is to floor the accelerator and keep it there. The transmission reacts by picking the ratio to put the engine in its optimum rev range and keeping it there.

Smooth and comfortable, the urban suv. introductionthe nissan murano is an excellent choice for someone who wants the smooth ride and responsive handling of a car, the cargo space of a wagon, and the high driving position of an suv. the murano is a good example of a crossover vehicle: it's designed to haul cargo like a sport-utility, but ride and drive like a car. However, this crossover handles better than the honda pilot and toyota highlander, and it drives more like a sports sedan. murano integrates aerodynamics and high fashion, with a sleek front end, smooth lines from front to back, and a greenhouse that slopes rearward, ending in a large but graceful c-pillar. Inside, nissan resisted the temptation to cram in three rows of seats like the highlander and pilot do. It's not a substitute for a minivan, nor does it look like one. the futuristic look is backed by sporty performance. The murano is powered by nissan's beefy 3. 5-liter v6, the same engine found in the 350z sports car, putting out 245 horsepower. It comes with a continuously variable transmission, a high-tech automatic that's smooth and responsive while offering superior gas mileage within its class. The murano shares much of its underpinnings with the nissan altima and maxima sedans (but is not related to the infiniti fx). all-wheel drive is available for better grip and stability in foul weather. A new entry-level murano s lowers the base price. lineupthe 2005 nissan murano is available in three models: s 26,850), sl 28,350) and se 29,300) models. All three are offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive 1,600). All models are powered by the 3. 5-liter v6 mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission that nissan calls the xtronic. all murano models come with features above the class standard. Standard equipment on all three versions includes dual-zone automatic temperature control, a high-power am/fm/cd audio system, power windows with auto up/down feature in front, keyless remote entry, reclining rear seats, and 18-inch alloy wheels. the murano se comes with a firmer sport-tuned suspension, a manual shift mode, styled alloy wheels and dark-silver lower bumpers. High-intensity xenon headlights, which have a manual leveling feature, are standard on the se and optional on the sl. safety features surpass the class standard. Among them: dual-stage frontal air bags with seat belt sensors, front-seat side-impact airbags, full-cabin curtain style head-protection airbags, and active front head restraints. Rollover sensors for the airbag system have been added for 2005. The s can be purchased with a convenience package 800) including a 10-way adjustable driver's seat (standard on the sl and se models), roof rails, adjustable pedals, and a cargo cover and net. The sl and se models can be further upgraded with a premium package 1,500), which adds a more powerful stereo with subwoofer and auto volume control to the contents of the convenience package. A chrome wheel package is available for sl models 1,200). walkaroundthe murano is named after the glass sculpted in the islands near venice, known for its beauty as well as for the high-tech methods used in its production. In the nissan murano, this duality is most obvious in the styling. the murano is designed to blend the look of a car and a truck. The top half of the body is sleek like a car, while the bottom half is bulky like a truck. Overall, the look is much sleeker than tall box-shaped suvs. At first it looks a bit over the top. Get used to it, though, and traditional suvs start looking boxy and dated. the murano's huge 18-inch wheels contribute to its muscular styling. Sculpted, vertical-stack headlights define the front corners. The highly styled rear hatchback is made of reinforced plastic because steel won't bend easily in such a complex shape. The windshield and front side windows are tinted green to deflect uv radiation; the rear side and rear windows are near black for privacy. as its looks suggest, the murano is an aerodynamic machine. Details in the design help it slip quietly through the air. The colors were chosen carefully to promote a luxury look. interiorclimbing into the nissan murano is easy, easier than other suvs. The seating position and steering wheel orientation make it feel more like a car than an suv. It's a mild surprise that the view rearward isn't compromised by the stylishly thick d-pillars. the front seats are comfortable and supportive, even for people well over six feet tall. Petite drivers are also able to get comfortable, with the power-adjustable pedals that help ensure a good driving position without getting too close to the steering wheel where the air bag is housed. The overall interior fit and finish are good. The preset buttons, for example, can be programmed to select either am or fm stations without having to press the separate mode button first. Controls on the steering wheel allow easy volume adjustments. the navigation system works well and includes a three-dimensional birds-eye view that's sometimes more fun to follow than the flat map. useful features make the murano a satisfying car for day-to-day use. A large center console separates the front seats, enhancing the sports sedan feel of the interior. The center console features a two-tiered lockable storage box with enough room for a laptop computer or a purse, cell phone, sunglasses, coins, cups and bottles. The door pockets flip out for easy access, and there's a hidden storage tray and two bins under the cargo floor. There are also three power outlets: front-passenger footwell, center console and rear. murano's cabin feels airy. The murano is a five-seat vehicle with similar interior space as the seven-seat toyota highlander and honda pilot. The rear seats take advantage of the additional space. As a result, the murano's back seat is limousine-like. The seats are split 60/40 and are flipped down individually. Flopping both seatbacks down presents a big cargo area with a nice flat floor. The load floor measures about the same length as the seven-seat honda pilot's. Indeed, with maximum cargo capacity of 81. 6 cubic feat, murano dwarfs nearly all of its five-seat competitors and some of the seven-seaters as well. Even with the back seats in place and five passengers aboard, there's still a substantial 32. 6 cubic feet of storage space. Moreover, the rear seats split 70/30 when they fold, so the murano can carry one or two passengers in back with long items like skis laid flat along the other side. on the downside, at 30. 4 inches, the rear load height is a bit higher than the class average. And the murano's bulky cargo cover seems to flap around and take up room. We'd be inclined to store it in the garage. driving impressionwe liked the nissan murano the first time we drove one.
